Ignatius or Ignatia? Part II

Will Iggy be a boy or a girl? Old Wives’ Tales are thus far inconclusive – so here we go with another round to see what we can see.

Heartbeats
One belief that has been around for some time – and even accepted in the medical community as fact at one point – is that fetal heart rates differ for boys and girls. A girl’s will be above 140, and a boy’s will be below that.
Verdict: Iggy’s heartbeat has been consistently 150 – when he/she can stay still long enough to get an accurate count.
Running Tally: Girl – 4; Boy – 3; Undetermined – 1

I’m Hungry
Appetite: You eat more if you’re pregnant with a boy, but are more nauseated with a girl.
Verdict: Except for the first few weeks, I haven’t been nauseated at all. But I definitely go from full to starving at an alarming basis. A point for the Boy column.
Cravings: It’s said a woman’s cravings are caused by the sex of the baby. If she can’t get enough chocolate, it’s a girl. Sour cravings are linked to boys.
Verdict: My cravings have been mostly on the sweet side, like chocolate and peanut butter.
Bread: Crave the heels of a loaf of bread? Boy. Would prefer the middle? Girl.
Verdict: Not really a “craving” per se, but I would rather eat the middle of the bread. Chalk one up for Team Pink.
Tally: Girl – 6; Boy – 4; Undetermined – 1

Yeah...Because These Make Sense
Pendant: Hold a pendant over your hand. If it swings back and forth, it’s a boy. A circular motion signals a girl.
Verdict: Definitely a circular motion.
Key: Close your eyes and pick up a key. Picking it up by the thinner end means you’re having a girl, but by the round end means a boy.
Verdict: I picked up the key by the round end.
Tally: Girl – 7; Boy – 5; Undetermined – 1

The Mayan Calendar
The Mayans determined the baby’s sex by comparing the mother’s age at conception, and the year conception occurred. If both are even or both are odd, it’s a girl. If one is even and one is odd, it’s a boy.
Verdict: 31 years old, and 2006 = Boy!
Tally: Girl – 7; Boy – 6; Undetermined – 1

Fall with Grace?
Tripping or falling over your own feet during pregnancy indicates you’re having a boy, while mothers that are graceful will have a girl.
Verdict per Robert: “I think you know what you need to mark.” Blue gets the point.
Tally: Girl – 7; Boy- 7; Undetermined – 1

That Is, When She Can Sleep
Mothers that prefer to lie their left sides are thought to be having a boy. On the right side means a girl.
Verdict: I prefers to sleep on my right side.
Tally: Girl – 8; Boy – 7; Undetermined – 1

Even after all these tests, the results are close. So close. 50% chance girl, 44% chance boy. Anyone like those odds? Besides the half of the Old Wives’ population out there who are about to see their baby-forecasting methods forever discredited?
